Tülay Genç's Journey into the Cocoon

Tülay Genç and Heartish crossed paths by chance. We were on a trip to Antakya, looking for the right loom for silk weaving. After our first meeting, she offered us tea and spicy bread. She told us to sit down; she had something to tell us. She explained that silk weaving is a job that requires a great deal of patience. “Silkworms never eat dirty mulberry leaves with chemical residue. Even the perfume in the environment affects them,” she said, adding: “A silkworm spins its cocoon in its 45-day lifespan. One cocoon yields 1,800 meters of thread. At least 2 kilograms of cocoons are needed to weave one meter of fabric. One kilogram of thread means approximately 2,000 cocoons. On average, 4,000 cocoons are needed for one meter of fabric.”

When we shifted our focus from mathematics for a moment and made eye contact, she said, "I want the women of my village to not just serve their husbands, but to take them out to eat." We blended the entire story of our trip to Antakya with her kind heart. Please watch her mini-documentary to get to know her.
